What is overnight-baked French toast?
Traditional French toast is bread dipped in a sweetened egg/milk/cream mixture and fried until the egg is cooked. This recipe is refrigerated overnight, so the sweet mixture can soak into the bread entirely and yields a soft and tender French toast that melts in your mouth.
Instructions
In a large bowl, beat the eggs, adding the milk, cream, vanilla, and granulated sugar. Pour the mixture over the bread, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and place it in the fridge overnight.
Remove the prepared baking dish from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for approx. 45 mins. Stir the brown sugar, flour, and salt in a small bowl.
Grate the butter on top and cut in with a pastry cutter or fork until it looks like large crumbs. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until the sides and top of the casserole are golden brown, and the inside is set.
