Overnight French Toast Casserole

Delicious Overnight French Toast Casserole is perfect for a weekend breakfast or a holiday brunch! A sweet and filling crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup butter, plus 1 tablespoon for greasing the dish
  • 2 sticks of French bread
  • 10 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ cup flour

Instructions
 

  • Spray a 9 x 13 x 3 oven-safe baking dish with an oil spray or grease the dish with one tablespoon of butter. 
  • Cut the bread into cubes and set the dish aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the eggs, adding the milk, cream, vanilla and granulated sugar. 
  • Pour the mixture over the bread, cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  • Remove the prepared baking dish from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for approx. 45 mins.
  • Preheat oven to 375°
  • Stir the brown sugar, flour, and salt in a small bowl.
  • Grate the butter on top and cut in with a pastry cutter until it looks like large crumbs.
  • Evenly sprinkle the crumble mixture over the bread.
  • Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until the sides and top of the casserole are golden brown, and the inside is set.

Notes

Can I cut the sugar in this recipe?
You can reduce the sugar to ¼ cup for the egg mixture and the crumb topping.
