Recipe for Chocolate Turtles

The layers of crisp pecans, chewy caramel, and creamy chocolate are addicting. I just love the sweet and salty combo! These homemade turtles have the perfect chocolate to caramel ratio, just like the ones you can buy at a candy store. Homemade always tastes better!

How to Make Chocolate Turtles

These homemade turtles are no-bake, easy, ready in under a half-hour, and you only need 4 ingredients. You can put a batch of these together pretty quickly. There is cooling time but you certainly don’t have to be present for that.

Christmas candies and desserts are so much fun! Consider giving these as a holiday gift for Thanksgiving or Christmas!

Storage

To store: Place turtles in an airtight container and store them at room temp for up to 3 weeks. Just make sure to keep them in a cool, dry place so that the chocolate doesn’t start to melt!

To freeze: Add to a freezer container with a piece of wax paper in between each layer of candies. Store in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Notes

Helpful tips
You could also use dark chocolate and finish with flaked sea salt.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator or a cool, dark space for up to two weeks. This is a rustic treat and does not have to cover the pecans perfectly.

  1. These look amazing and SO easy! Going on the list to make for Christmas this year for sure! 1 question… raw pecans or toasted? Or does it matter?

  2. made these 2 x, 2 different ways…. best turnout was to use molding chocolate instead of chocolate chips….. put a dab of molding chocolate on parchment paper.. press pecans on chocolate… add caramel.. then cover with molding chocolate… otherwise caramel seeps thru and sticks to parchment paper and messy to get off… but they ARE delicious….

  3. I tried this the other day and no way did they look like yours. My caramel was runny and sticky, which made them stick together when I put them in the containers to give to my family…. Any suggestions?

    1. Sorry to hear that happened. Once the caramel isn’t warm, it should maintain its shape, like before it was melted. Melted caramel is definitely sticky though!
