Easy Caramel Apple Slices! Make this fall apple treat with all of your favorite toppings!

Caramel Apple Slices

I love the contrast between tart apples and sweet chocolate and caramel. Crisp apples, chewy caramel, and any festive topping you can imagine! They’re just like candy apples, but easier to eat.

Ingredients

  1. Apples – granny smith apples, fuji, honeycrisp, gala, pink lady, any apples you like!
  2. Caramel bits OR caramel squares to make caramel sauce
  3. Chocolate chips
  4. White chips, or white chocolate
  5. Pecans, peanuts, sprinkles, mini marshmallows, coconut, pretzels, cinnamon, etc.
  6. Lollipop sticks
Ingredients

Melt caramel bits, and chocolate/white chips in separate bowls. You can do this by microwaving them for 10-15 seconds at a time or putting them in a hot water bath.

Toppings

Be careful not to get any water in the chocolate – even just a drop will cause your chocolate to harden and be unusable.

Toppings melted

While caramel and chocolate are melting, slice apples into ⅓-½ inch slices, and pierce with a lollipop stick. It can be helpful to break the skin of the apple with a knife tip or toothpick first. You want the seat the stick half an inch or so into the apple. Just make sure the apple slices are dry (pat them with a paper towel) or else the toppings have a hard time sticking.

If you’re worried about the apples turning brown, the easiest way to stop this from happening is to spritz the sliced apples with lemon juice. Lay the prepared apple slices on parchment paper for easy clean-up, and drizzle with melted caramel, melted chocolate, white chocolate, and other toppings and flavors as desired.

  • Refrigerate to set caramel and chocolate
  • Serve cold

Notes

A condiment bottle or pastry bag works really well for drizzling chocolate. Since we’re not adding any butter or oil to thin the chocolate out (if we do it can get messy and start dripping off your apple slices once they’re out of the fridge), it can be hard to get it to drizzle off the spoon nicely. The same is true of the caramel, but if you’re covering the whole apple with the caramel, a nice drizzle isn’t as important.
If you’re worried about the apples turning brown, the easiest way to stop this from happening is to spritz the sliced apples with lemon juice.
