Everyone will want to know how you made them because they’re so impressive looking. They’re often called broken Jello glass because they look like broken pieces of stained glass. However, they are VERY easy to make!

Blue Jello

Ingredients

  1. Cherry jello dry mix – or strawberry flavor as long as it is red jello
  2. Berry blue jello dry mix – use whatever blue jello flavor that you want
  3. Envelope of unflavored gelatin – you can find this with flavored jello in the grocery store. This is going to be for the white parts of the stars since they don’t make white jello
  4. Sweetened condensed milk – this adds a delicious taste to the white layer of Jello!
  5. Water – both boiling water and cold water
Blue Jello

Instructions:

Using 2 large bowls, mix the red Jello and the blue Jello packets with water. Stir until no more dry mix remains in the water. Place the liquid Jello in your refrigerator for 3 hours for it to set.

How to make broken glass Jello

Once the red and blue Jello has set, loosen it out of the bowl by sitting the bowl in hot water. Remove the Jello from the bowls, and cut them into 1-inch cubes. Scatter the red layer and the blue layer of squares in a rectangular baking dish or pan.

How to make broken glass Jello

Mix boiling water with the unflavored gelatin in a large pot or bowl. Quickly stir in the can of sweetened condensed milk to make white Jello and let the mixture come to room temperature.

Once cooled, pour the white gelatin over the cubes of red and blue Jello and place it in your refrigerator for another 3 hours so the white layer can set.

Patriotic Jello Glass Stars

Once the condensed milk mixture is set, remove it from the rectangular dish and place it on a piece of parchment paper.  Using a star cookie cutter (in various sizes, if desired), cut out red, white, and blue Jello stars! If you don’t have cookie cutters, cut out red, white, and blue Jello squares instead!

Cook Time: 6 hours
Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes
Servings: 25 Jello stars

Equipment

  • large mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • 9"x13" dish

Ingredients

  • 4 (3 ounce) packets of cherry jello dry mix
  • 4 (3 ounce) packets of berry blue jello dry mix
  • 3 (.25 ounce) packets of unflavored gelatin
  • 1 (14 ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 6½ cups water

Instructions

  • Using 2 large bowls, mix cherry jello with 2 cups of boiling water in one and 2 cups of boiling water and berry blue jello in the other. Stir both for about 5 minutes or until no more dry mix remains in the water. Place them in your refrigerator to set for 3 hours.
  • Once the red and blue jello has set, loosen it out of the bowl by sitting the bowl in hot water. Once the jello is out of the bowls, cut them into 1-inch cubes and scatter the cubes in a 9×13 casserole-style dish.
  • Mix 2.5 cups of boiling water with unflavored gelatin in a large pot or bowl and then quickly stir in the can of sweetened condensed milk to make white gelatin. Let this cool to almost room temperature.
  • Pour the white gelatin over the cubes of red and blue jello and place it in your refrigerator for another 3 hours to set.
  • Once the jello has set, take the jello out of the 9×13 dish by placing the bottom of the dish in very hot water, and once loosened, flip it over onto a cutting board or parchment paper.
  • Using a 3-inch star cookie cutter and a ½ inch cookie cutter, cut out large stars first and then small stars from the extra jello.
  • Serve chilled.
