Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Pumpkin Pie spice
  • Salt
  • Molasses
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Eggs
  • M&M or any other similar candies
  • Melted chocolate (to stick the M&Ms)

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer – handheld or stand mixer
  • Christmas tree cookie cutter
  • Wire rack for cooling
  • Plastic cling wrap (like Saran wrap)
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking tray/cookie sheet
  • Parchment paper
Ingredients

Recipe

In a large bowl, whisk the dry ingredients – flour, cocoa powder, pumpkin spice, and salt together. Kids are great at helping with this part!

Powder Ingredients

In a separate bowl using a stand mixer (you can also use the hand mixer for this) cream the butter, and sugar and beat it at medium speed, scraping down the sides for at least 2-3 min.

Wet ingredients

Add in the eggs and molasses and beat until everything is incorporated well. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in batches and mix till the dough is formed.

Flatten the cookie dough to form a disc, wrap it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour. Once chilled, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out shapes using a Christmas tree cookie cutter.

For something extra special, consider sprinkling on powdered sugar like it is snow! Or, some white frosting and sprinkles would be fun to make with these as well! Use green food coloring to make green frosting:)

  • Add in the eggs and molasses and beat until everything is incorporated well.
  • Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in batches and mix till the dough is formed.
  • Flatten the dough to form a disc, wrap it with a cling wrap, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • Once chilled, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out shapes using a Christmas tree cookie cutter
  • Place the cut-outs on the prepared baking tray and bake for at least 12-13 min in a preheated oven.
  • Let the cookies cool for a few minutes in the baking tray before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once they cool down, stick the m&m's as you desire using a little melted white/dark chocolate!

Notes

  • You can store the cookies in an airtight container for 1-2 days at room temperature or for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
  • Do not bake the cookies with the M&Ms as the colors of m&m’s will fade out.
  • These cookies are fragile and will break if you try to push the M&Ms inside. So, it’s better to stick them with a little melted chocolate.
  • The number of cookies will depend on how thick you roll the dough and the size of your cookie cutter.
