Cheddar Cheese Quick Bread Recipe

Begin by preheating your oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, garlic, and salt. To the center of the dry ingredients add the milk, egg, and melted butter.

Whisk the batter quickly, but do not over whisk. Note that the batter will thicken quickly!  Next, add in the freshly shredded cheese. Mix or fold in the cheese with a rubber spatula for ease.  After that, pour batter into a greased bread pan. Finally, bake for 45 minutes.

Remove the loaf from the oven and allow the Cheddar bread to cool for 10 minutes. Transfer the bread to a wire cooling rack. Slice, serve, and enjoy with butter or chive cream cheese!

Quick Bread Tips:

  • Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese because pre-shredded has a flour/non-stick coating on it which prevents it from melting well in a loaf of bread like this.
  • Get creative! Add fresh or dried herbs, like parsley, or chives. Switch up cheeses, etc.
  • Quick breads are (almost) foolproof. Just watch that you don’t overdo the amount of liquids when adding flavors and ingredients.

    1. I’ve used 1% it came out good though I don’t know what it taste like with whole. I think 2% should be fine.

    1. The sugar is for balance. Like salt in a cookie recipe. Leave it in and see what you think. I’ll bet you won’t taste the sugar.😁

  1. I am glad to see this Cheese Bread, I follow someone’s
ingredients to the letter, am married 59yrs and feel when I
vary off it is not the same as reading/and or seeing on the computer.
Martha Stewart is great, and if you are so inclined try it your
way with 2% or 1%. and see how it is.
    enjoy.

  2. I just left a comment asking for help if anyone could tell me the best way to store the Cheddar Quick Bread to get the most days out of it, but it disappeared before I was able to put my name and post it. I don’t know if it went through or where it went. This is my first time commenting on a recipe. Pinterest and all this is new to me and I’ve never gotten along with computers. Sorry. My husband and I made the bread this morning to go with our scrambled eggs and sausage patties. It turned out really well but I think next time I’ll cut back on the garlic (as we are not big fans of it). My husband shredded the cheese with my food processor (because I don’t have a box grater). It was his first time using it and now he thinks he’s got a new toy! We can’t wait to try making it again and other kinds too. It was a very simple recipe. I just need to know how to store it. Please help! Thanks!
