Total Time 27 minutes

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Wooden spoon
  • Bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or handheld mixer (for the cream cheese mixture)
  • 9x13 Inch Casserole Dish
  • 1-inch star cookie cutter

Ingredients

  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 2 packs taco seasoning, divided
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cubed and softened
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1⅕ cups refried beans
  • 1 (4.5 ounce) can of diced green chilis
  • 2 cups guacamole
  • 2 cup salsa
  • 2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 2 slices mozzarella cheese
  • cups fresh diced tomato
  • 3 tablespoons sliced black olives
  • 1 cup blue corn chips (plus more for dipping!)

Instructions

  • Season and brown the beef. Add the beef to a large heavy bottom skillet. Cook the beef until browned and cooked through, crumbling it as you go. Turn off the heat, drain the grease from the beef, and stir in one taco seasoning packet. Set aside.
  • Cut out stars. Cut stars out of the sliced mozzarella cheese.
  • Beat. In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, sour cream, and remaining taco seasoning packet until smooth.
  • Layer. In a 9X13 casserole dish, layer (in order) the refried beans, cooked ground beef, green chilis, sour cream mixture, guacamole, salsa, and pepper jack.
  • Make it a flag. Arrange the black olives in the top left corner where the blue of the American flag would be. Make rows of tomatoes (like the stripes on a flag) over the white pepper jack layer.  Layer the chips over the olives to prevent the chips from getting soggy sitting on salsa and cheese. Place stars over the chips.
