Servings: 12 people
Prep Time 15 minutes mins
Cooling time 15 minutes mins
Total Time 30 minutes mins
- 3 apples
- ½ cup caramel bits OR caramel squares
- ⅓ cup chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup white chips, or white chocolate
- Fun additions: pecans, peanuts, sprinkles, etc.
Melt caramel bits, and chocolate/white chips in separate bowls. You can do this by microwaving them for 10-15 seconds at a time, or putting them in a hot water bath. Note: Be careful not to get any water in the chocolate - even just a drop will cause your chocolate to seize/harden
While caramel and chocolate is melting, slice apples into ⅓-½ inch slices, and pierce with a lollipop stick. It can be helpful to break the skin of the apple with a knife tip or toothpick first. You want the seat the stick half an inch or so into the apple
Lay the prepared apple slices on parchment paper for easy clean up, and drizzle with melted caramel, chocolate, white chocolate, and other toppings as desired
Refrigerate to set caramel and chocolate
Serve cold
A condiment bottle or pastry bag works really well for drizzling chocolate. Since we’re not adding any butter or oil to thin the chocolate out (if we do it can get messy and start dripping off your apple slices once they’re out of the fridge), it can be hard to get it to drizzle off the spoon nicely. The same is true of the caramel, but if you’re covering the whole apple with the caramel, a nice drizzle isn’t as important.
If you're worried about the apples turning brown, the easiest way to stop this from happening is to spritz the sliced apples with lemon juice.
